we are finding places on earth that stand in for the permanent moon base locations and for mars, so the science, and the people, can rehearse before we go.
the challenge is to identify earth locations that analog the permanent moon base locations and mars. we are hunting satellite and survey datasets for corners of the planet that match the ground, the light and the isolation of a permanent base and of a martian landing site, then mapping them side by side.
